Beginner cheerleading

Beginner cheerleading is built for athletes who are brand new to the sport. No experience is needed and nothing is assumed. Coaches start with the basics and build up step by step, so first-time athletes learn safe, correct technique from day one. Our beginner classes at The Stingray Allstars Fort Lauderdale in Deerfield Beach welcome new athletes from all over Broward County.

Do you need experience to start beginner cheer?

No. Beginner cheer is specifically for athletes with little or no background in the sport. If your child has never tumbled, stunted, or been in a gym before, this is exactly where they are meant to start.

Coaches assume no prior skills. They introduce the fundamentals in a clear order, keep the environment encouraging, and let each athlete progress at a comfortable, healthy pace.

What do beginners learn first?

The first goal is safe, confident movement. Athletes build body awareness and strength while learning the earliest building blocks of tumbling, stunting, jumps, and motions.

  • Basic tumbling like rolls, cartwheels, and handstands
  • Body positions and shapes used in every cheer skill
  • Beginning jump technique, including the toe touch
  • Simple stunt roles and how to work safely as a group
  • Sharp arm motions and following counts

Who is beginner cheer a good fit for?

Beginner classes are a great fit for kids who are curious about cheer, athletes crossing over from another sport, and families who want a low-pressure way to try it before committing to more. Because placement is by skill and not just age, athletes of different ages can start together.

For many Fort Lauderdale and Broward County families, a beginner class is the first step. As skills and confidence grow, athletes can move into higher-level classes or explore an all-star team.

Is beginner cheer safe for young or nervous kids?

Safety and encouragement come first. Coaches use proper progressions and spotting so athletes only advance when they are ready, which keeps nervous or very young beginners comfortable.

The goal of a first season is simple: help your athlete feel capable, make friends, and fall in love with the sport. Skills follow naturally once a beginner feels safe and supported.

How old does my child need to be to start?

We welcome a wide range of ages into beginner classes and place athletes by skill rather than age alone. Call (954) 988-0488 and we will point you to the right starting class.
